Farewell 2014….

Well Hello 2015!
Well Hello 2015!

I’ve completely lost track of the days as you do over the Christmas holidays, so it came as a bit of a surprise to find out it’s New Years Eve already & Wednesday.  I have slept for most of the holidays if I’m honest, I was really quite exhausted by Christmas Eve & then came down with an epic cold as you do. So I’d love to say I’ve planned an epic night of partying, with heaps of friends, ridiculous drinking games, endless quaffing & general New Year bawdiness but alas not for me, those partying days of old, of dressing up in quirky, eye catching fancy dress which took days to plan, with no regard to the freezing temperatures are definitely over!  I’m more likely to be snuggled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate & marshmallows, well it is New Year,  in my onesie & elf slippers, wondering when it would be polite to go to bed – Oh how sensible & boring I’ve become! I fear (& hope) I’m not the only one, yes, please someone tell me this is their life too… please…? Or…..  I could just throw caution to the wind, let loose the pink fizz & just get absolutely trollied & have done with it, I’m even sure I spotted a bottle of Baileys in the cupboard!!! I guess I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Anyways, enough of the not even drunk ramblings, as is customary at this time of year, lets have a look back at the High Lights from the year that was! It’s mostly of cake can you believe it, & heaps of it too!

So many high lights, so much cake & gingerbread made & here’s hoping lots, lots more in 2015!

2014 has been a tough year for lots of reasons, but despite all the hurdles I feel I have achieved such a lot, but I really couldn’t have done without the love, kindness, patience, understanding & support from my most wonderful Family & Friends.  I am one very lucky Little Baker!

So to you all, I wish as 2014 comes to a close, that 2015 brings you Happiness & Health, that you love & are loved & All your Dreams come true! May 2015 be everything you wish for!

Happy New Year!!!

❄️❄️❄️ Christmas Treacle Market Part 2 – The Finale!! ❄️❄️❄️

Christmas is Coming

As I write this I’m watching  Morcombe & Wise Christmas Special, kipper ties, wide lapels & Des O’Conner, oh & Angela Rippon now, its definite throw back to the 70’s, (not that I remember the 70’s of course, I’m purely guessing here you understand…) Either way, it definitely means Christmas is almost here! ❄️ My lovely friend Doodle Lou is so very talented & she has a stall along with other very talented artists/designers, just out the entrance to the Grosvenor Centre, beautiful, quirky jewelry , cards & gifts!

There are so many more wonderful business I could go on all day & night & longer, but a few to look at anyways!

Pre-Christmas Drinkies

Christmas is ComingIt’s exactly one month to Christmas Day.

Now I’m not saying I’m panicking exactly, well not outwardly, well not yet anyway, but…. There’s definitely visions of sugared plums dancing in my head, whether I’m awake or not, I’m consumed by gingerbread, which to be fair isn’t as much of problem as you’d think.  I’ve accidentally merged the Christmas play list with the everyday one on my iPod, (yes, you assume right, I file Christmas music, I’m ok with it & so should you… OK???).  So essentially, the path well trodden & seldom totally prepared for is before me. Christmas, whether you like it or loath it is coming… So pass round the tin of Quality Street, crack open the sherry, it’s time to plan ahead.

My intention is to keep this particular blog piece short & sweet, a bit like my good self,  & to share with you where & when you can get your woolly mittens on some fine CocoaNokos fodder, because as we all know, it’s good to share.

Firstly, & excitedly, a few dates in your diary:

Sunday 30th November will find us at the region’s FAVOURITE Artisan Market – Treacle Market!! This month is the first Christmas Treacle Market & will be chockablock, rammed to the rafters, filled to the brim with amazing produce, stunning art, wonderful crafts, fabulous entertainment & oh so much more! Free parking all day too! Definitely bring bags a plenty, you WILL need them, for a truly amazing market! And we’ll be on Castle Street, with cakes aplenty & more gingerbread than you can shake a stick!

And then as if that wasn’t enough, there’s another Treacle Market on Sunday 21st December, joyous times!!

And inbetwix that, there’ll be treats a plenty at Macclesfield Train Station, as they will be holding several pop-up events, this Friday, Saturday & Sunday, & then every Saturday leading up to Christmas! We’ll be attending on Saturday 6th with gingerbread galore!!!

Secondly & equally exciting, you can visit the rather awesome Plums Kitchen, on the Market Place, for some rather top nosh. You can get you’re CocoaNoko’s FairyCake fix there too!

Serendipity not only have rather scrummy gingerbread cows & ChocChipCookies, along with a stunning array of unusual gifts!

And then we have Food4Macc Direct, where you can order an abundance of local produce, including a veritable array of CocoaNoko’s produce!

And just to keep you in the know about all things Christmassy in Macclesfield, pop over to the following, they’ve got pretty much everything covered!! Winterfest, Totally Locally MaccTreacle Mums & Mums In the Know

Shorter & sweeter than my usual, marginally! Back to baking gingerbread for me, so excited, Christmas is Coming to Macclesfield & it’s gingerbread shaped!!!

Barnaby Festival (I may even wear a Hat) Treacle Market!!

It’s been a fabulous start to the Summer with Barnaby Festival kicking off in Macclesfield these last few weeks! There’s still an awful lot of things to see & do before the amazing festival closes on Sunday Night! Highlights so far have been the brilliant ‘Industry’ Parade on Saturday; amazing floats, toetapping music, visionary costumes & masses & masses of happy Parading folk (including me!)! It’s rumoured to have been The Biggest Parade ever! I like that!

Treacle Market Paraders! Thanks to Macclesfield Physio Pilates for use of this Excellent photo!

Other highlights have been Morella, Passages from a Gothic Opera at the hauntingly beautiful King Edward St Chapel, it was phenomenal! Given this is essentially a working project it really was fantastic & I cannot wait to see this again & possibly again! Tim Peaks Diner was great too, live music, great food & incredible atmosphere, & then there was Acoustic Sanctuary,  intimate, yet astounding gig with Tim Burgess (The Charlatans) & Stephen Morris (New Order – Macclesfield born & bred no less!) or so I’m told, sadly I didn’t get to go to this….The less said the better … Moving on.. So the Big Weekend was truly Big! I fear I may run out of superlatives to describe how amazing it actually was! I felt like I was on holiday, the sun shone, the atmosphere all over town was perfectly brilliant & I am in awe of the team who have created such a fantastic, fun filled, phenomenal festival! Hats off to you all!

Luckily for us all, there’s still a lot more to be packed into this weekend with the Music Fringe kicking off around town in all the superb pubs & bars – who needs Glastonbury! And then there’s Treacle Market, perfectly positioned & timed for you to forage & gather all the your favourite Treacle Treat to round off an truly spectacular fortnight of cultural fun!  Baskets, bags & Treacle Carts at the ready!!

Treacle Market!

Happy May Treacle Market!

IMG_0319It’s the final Bank Holiday of May, it’s the start of Whit Week & that means Spring Half Term! Holidays for the children & hibernation time for me!! I’m hoping the weather will hold, well one can dream! Talking of weather it has been quite wonderful of late, well it has in Macclesfield which obviously pleases me no end! The grass has been trimmed to perfection & by the sounds of things over the garden fence, it’s not the only lawn being rather noisily sliced into submission! The weeding is well underway, yes yes I’m sure everyone else is well ahead in the gardening stakes, producing veg & fruit in abundance already by now, well, good for you, I’m more the trim things when they a)get in the way, b)if they cause me a problems or c)try to garrote me, kind of gal, nature as nature intended. I definitely not the type to trim the lawn with nail scissors unlike some people I could mention. However I do dream of a little veg patch but I’m planning to do that next year, again… Or maybe the year after, well one day, I’m ever hopeful. . .

So that’s the lawns sorted (oh how posh, the lawns, really it’s just 2 patches of grass which is mostly moss & if I’m honest it’s not actually my job, I delegate this one to the boys… The lawn mover has wheels…) The laurels have been tamed(ish), they certainly don’t tower as much, so lots more lovely sunshine rains down on our little patch. I’ve been waging war on the suspiciously abundant dandelion too. Is it just me or is there a veritable riot of these much maligned weeds this year? They appear to be EVERYWHERE! (I cannot be blamed for this, I’m not one of those urban jungle gardeners, well not recently, there was one summer where I may have been a little generous with some poppy seeds, but nobody can prove anything & the less said the better…) Anyway, getting back to the dandelions, specifically in my garden, specifically you understand (what the wind does is none of my business), I see them more of a semi-cultivated crop, given we have a pair of particularly cute & characterful but essentially greedy pair of bunnies living with us, a win win situation don’t you think?

All this talk of gardening has made me feel a little peckish. What would be nice now would be a nice pot of tea & a small(ish) cake, but alas, the cupboard is bare, not even a crumb… Good job it’s Treacle Market this then! I’ve heard on the grape vine that this month, the Market will be even bigger & even better! Is that possible? Too blinkin right it is! It’s going to be rather smashing you know! So wend you way from the Market Pace, pop along Chestergate, scoot though the Grovensor Centre to Castle St, pop by my stall (of course!!), mooch down Mill St, all the way down to Exchange Square! You’re going to need lots of bags, baskets, trugs, small suitcases or even trailers, it’s going to be AMAZING!! Which brings me neatly & inevitably to my proposed menu! Here we go!

First Up gets the cake – only crumbs if you’re late!!’

Happy Mother’s Day

Spring
I think receiving something hand-made by my offspring for Mother’s Day is just the most precious thing. I have a box (ok maybe 2.. 3, ok a room!) brimming with hand-made creations. Beautiful cards, crazy surrealist paintings & drawings, heaps of pictures of cars & rabbits, all made just for me. Each one a nugget of love. And in turn I love them all. And just because I give the appearance of being a ‘growd up’, doesn’t mean I should stop making crazy, slightly surrealist, brimming with love creations for my Mum either. It’s something my siblings & I have always done, from things made at school when we were little nippers, to full-blown theatrical productions, my poor brother only occasionally being made to dress up as a girl. There were some very ambition projects undertaken, just for our Mum, I think she liked them…

These days I would normally bake something I know my Mum loves, and she is very much allowed to scoff whatever it all to herself but she never does, she’s generous like that. And I have to say, it’s an easy thing to do (especially when you bake for a living), but it’s not all about cake here at CocoaNoko Makes you know, especially last week! Being ill the lead up to Treacle Market & Mother’s day was not my finest moment but what can you do? Well, what I can do is make things & having a bit of time on my hands, I decided to hide away in my very neglected work room & make a little something for my Mummy for Mother’s Day. I’m glad did it, I’m very pleased with my efforts, to me it’s perfect, I know she’ll see how much she is loved.

To My amazing Mum
To My Amazing Mum

It may sound a little smug, but making your Mum happy, to show she’s loved on Mother’s Day is what it’s all about isn’t it? To each their own…

I hope Mother’s Day was a beautiful moment for all yesterday. In our busy, non-stop lives, those little moments of unconditional love make all the difference. A simple, single thoughtful gesture, that cuts through all the commercialism, through all the lifestyle pressure, time constraints, distance & family politics, can make all the difference.

So love & be loved, create, eat cake, drink tea! And stop…. Take a moment…

The Year that was a Rollercoaster…

It was about this time last year when I had a moment of literal fluidity, spouting all things New Year-ish, declaring how exciting the prospect of the forthcoming rollercoaster of a year that I envisioned landing on my doormat would be. Turns out it was exactly that, and more bumpy than I could ever have imagined & I am most definitely glad 2013 has almost waxed & waned its last.

But before 2013 finally chimes out to make way for 2014, I’d just like to have a nosy as some of the highlights!  Very proud to have been a small part in some spectacular events this year, very special birthdays, a wedding or two, plenty of Treacle Markets, lots & lots of Crazy Caramel Fairy cakes headed out for breakfast, dinner & tea, indeed lots & lots of cake! Quite a few little gift boxes headed over to Blue Buttons too. And then there was Barnaby 2013 of course, who could forget our magnificent Parade! So despite the moments of unimaginable sadness, unexpected illness & other such bumps, there have been some gems… And every cloud has a silver lining, including 2013.

There is another silver lining to 2013, somewhat invisible but there all the same & that’s the wonderful collection of people who have been a part of my rollercoaster year. New folks, old folks, lost & found folks, family folks & friend folks, wouldn’t/couldn’t do without folks, all cherished… To you all I wish for a prosperous, inventive, aspiring, rewarding, positive & productive 2014, may you find happiness in the weirdest of places, & as always love & be loved.

So with that I look forward to 2014, not with as much excitement as last year perhaps, I hope for the usual summer sunshine, a filing system that repels those that interfere, definitely no rollercoasters, but possibly a nice pot of tea & a slice of ever so tempting cake…

Happy, Happy New 2014 to all!

2013 A New RollerCoaster

The Wistful SnailAfter having a quick scout across the Internet & such like, there appears to be a definite divide as how peeps are tackling the New Year.  Retrospective ponderings of the year that was or resolutioning the way into the forthcoming chunk of time.  I can’t decide where I am in the greater scheme of things, but I know for certain yesterday was Sunday, it’s now most definitely Monday and tomorrow is predictably Tuesday.

If I were to think retrospectively I would say I’ve experienced what I can only describe as a bumpy 2012.  More like an out of control rollercoaster – immense dips and truly memorable highs, but also with Carousel like tendencies which has left me screaming at times to want to get off.  I feel mostly shaken but very much stirred by it all.  The positive spin is that the learning curve from all of this, as you can imagine, has been immense!!

Christmas has given me the luxury of breathing space.  I’ve been magically given the gift of time, to ponder the Rollercoaster that was, and to prepare for the one that will be.  The difference this coming year will be how I approach it. And here’s the question – Resolution or Prediction?

Resolutions aren’t really my thing if I’m honest.  The process in itself appears to me self-defeating to start with and flawed.  It only seems to benefit those who are there when a resolution is announced and there when you fail for the simple purpose of them pointing out your defeat!  An obvious resolution there would be have a culling of ‘so called’ friends, if not in person then definitely from a virtual stand point!  So resolutions aren’t the way forward for me so lets look at predictions!

Would it be great fun to be able to predict the future do you think?  Actually when I think about it, I’m not so sure.  Some things are reasonably predictable aren’t they like the fact it’s more or less likely I’ll be a year older over the next year, I won’t be any taller than I am right now, I’ll be a different weight by the end of the year to right now (hopefully lighter!!) and at some point in the next year there will be sunshine… Ok that’s too much to ask – there WILL be rain!! But that’s all boring predictions, and well a little too predictable.  I could predict I’ll be a millionaire over the next year but how probably is that? Not bloomin likely! So that leads us neatly and whimsically to hopes, dreams & wishes!

This is what I need to think about then – hopes, dream & wishes with inbuilt flexibility & fallibility of course! It’s bound to make things a bit bumpier along the way but it would be boring otherwise.  I hope to be more organised, (I can dream can’t I!!!) I dream of a fully functioning, fully decorated home (I hope that one actually happen and it’s actually my house – not some one else’s ),  I dream of snow and sunshine, maybe at the same time!  I dream of happiness for those I love & hold dear, I dream of winning the lottery so help the previous dream to come true! I also wish the lawn was more grass and less moss…

Either way, to you all out there who read my wistful ramblings, my hopes for you all are this, may your resolution be silent but fulfilled, your predictions be positive, may you be the best person you can be, that you are kind and considerate to everyone and everything and kindest offered in return, that you love and are loved and may you have a glorious sunny summer, in which case, I dream you live near me!

Happy, Happy 2013 to all!
